Lance has been fishing the Big Hole since he was old enough to cast a rod. He learned from his father and honed his skills through countless hours on the water, both solo and alongside friends. Over the years, Lance has developed numerous innovative fly patterns, earned competition wins, and continues to push the sport of fly fishing forward every day.
On the water, Lance strikes a rare balance between challenging anglers to improve and reach their full potential, while keeping things light with his signature dry sense of humor that brings life to every boat.
He was introduced to hunting by his wife’s uncle and quickly elevated his abilities through dedication and experience. Spending long hours in the timber, Lance committed himself to learning, growing, and mastering the craft. He began working for other outfitters before eventually seizing the opportunity to purchase his own hunting outfitting business.
Today, Lance brings 38 years of guiding experience in the Big Hole Valley, offering clients not just a trip, but a deeply rooted knowledge of the land, water, and traditions that define it.
Matt Sawyer
Matt Sawyer has been guiding in Montana since 2009, building a career rooted in experience and a deep respect for the outdoors. Over the years, he has helped clients explore Montana's renowned rivers, sharing his extensive knowledge of local waters, fish behavior, and effective techniques. He built his reputation through long days, tough conditions, and a relentless focus on getting clients on fish. In addition to fishing, Matt has also worked as a hunting guide, leading safe, ethical, and successful hunts across Montana's rugged landscapes. He brings a hardworking, practical approach, and a deep respect for the land to every trip he leads. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, Matt works with both beginners and seasoned outdoorsmen. His extensive local knowledge helps create productive trips and true Montana adventures. When he's not guiding, Matt enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the wild places he proudly calls home.
Dylan Cibelli
Dylan was born and raised in the Everglades of Southwest Florida, chasing tarpon and snook on fly and learning to read water and movement at a high level. He brings that saltwater edge to the river, showing trout new techniques and hand tied flies they rarely see. Let's just say...they work.
Dylan has been guiding before he could drive a car. He first visited Troutfitters as a guest and the vast landscapes of Montana took hold of him to the point that he now calls this place home. He is fully obsessed with pushing the boundaries of the outdoors and taking his skills to new heights.
​Years of anticipating a fish's next move has translated seamlessly into elk hunting, where patience and instinct matter most. Calm, laid back, and a natural teacher, Dylan can keep it steady - or turn it up when it's time to get it done.
